Nationals MP Kate Wilkinson has exposed Nationals thin depth of experienced MPs. The Minister of Food Safety Kate Wilkinson showed on TV1 Q&A program that she is out of her depth and completely in the hands of her officials .By saying she is tied to the process and can't stop folic acid being put in our bread even though she is against it.
National supporters that voted National thinking the party stood for freedom of choice, and not one which promotes mass medication of all New Zealanders by putting folic acid in our daily bread without any public or parliamentary debate. That has a likelihood of increasing the risk of prostate cancer for men. And may only save five pregnant womans babies from birth defects because they didn't take their recommended folic acid supplements when they were pregnant. And then would have to eat eleven slices of bread a day to take in the required amount. Is just plain stupid.
John Key's National party is looking more and more like a one man party. He is now going to have to step in and withdraw this nanny state forced mass medication to save public face.
But the damage is done his parties Minister of Food Safety Kate Wilkins has been shown to be a mere yes sir no sir cadet parliamentary office lacky than a politician, when she talks about what she thought she couldn’t do “under the law”, though she agreed she had misgivings about possible health threats from adding folic acid. She showed she had no political savvy or Ministerial nous on how to stop it from happening. Exposing her inexperience and inaptness to take charge by implementing a Labour decision and knowing National will take a hiding for it if its implementation goes ahead.
Bread bakers have offered choice by providing lines of bread with folic acid added. And it concedes the folic acid in the bread won’t be sufficient for pregnant women to safeguard against birth defects. Also other countries that were thinking of implementing folic acid in bread Ireland and Britain have delayed implementation until the position is clear on the safety of doing so.
John Key has to really act fast on this one as theres know one capable in his cabinet able to do so, showing just how pathetic the depth of his party really is. It also shows National is really a one man party, and without him they are doomed.
We saw it in the Mt Albert by-election with Melissa Lee and now we see it with Kate Wilkins Nationals total lack of political savvy in its management and in its MPs.
